MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Qualified Mechanical Engineer (Minumum BTech Degree)
  • Applicant must be able to meet the physical requirements of the key activities, including climbing in and out of tank containers, working at heights and performing manual tasks involving equipment and fixtures.
  • Familiar with the principles of Fabrication and Process in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be proficient in Inventor.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a manufacturing concern.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capable of running meetings, taking minutes and action tasks/activities.
  • Must be prepared to go through an interview and assessment process which will be used to determine:
    • An applicant’s problem-solving skill and ability.
    • An applicant’s practical/verbal/written ability.
    • An applicant’s understanding of Inventor.
  • Process experience and experience in tank containers will be advantageous.

OVERVIEW OF KEY ACTIVITIES:

  • PRE-PRODUCTION:
    • Liaise with marketing/drawing office regarding new processes or manufacture of new parts for tender or new jobs.
    • Attend pre-production meeting, compile list of points that need special attention, discuss these issues with relevant parties.
    • Compile list of jigs, templates and equipment that is needed for new jobs, ensure they are available in time.
    • Fabricate and assemble templates/fixtures.
  • WORKS INSTRUCTIONS:
    • Maintain current works instructions.
    • Update works instructions to include new methods, improvements or where special attention is required.
    • Liaise with production/training departments regarding implementation of new instructions.
  • EQUIPMENT:
    • Maintain a list of all equipment in production areas including jigs, templates and production aids.
    • Motivate for purchase of new equipment, evaluate between alternative suppliers equipment.
    • Sign off acceptance of new equipment once it has been suitable commissioned.
    • Compile and submit reports for the initial motivation/justification as well as the verification of actual versus proposed savings (labour and/or time).
  • MANUFACTURING CAPABILITY:
    • Automation of various processes/machines to eliminate/reduce operator error.
    • Ensure new/existing equipment meets the required specification.
    • Prove work methods, update works instructions if required.
    • Liaise with training/production for training, hand over process to production.
    • Compile and submit reports for the initial motivation/justification as well as the verification of actual versus proposed savings (labour and/or time)
  • INVESTIGATIONS:
    • Evaluate process problems, make recommendations on solving.
